Heartbeat Labs founder will be managing the digital health VC together with Dr. Christian Weiß
Berlin, February 13, 2020. The HealthTech VC Heal Capital announced today that Eckhardt Weber has taken over the role of managing partner and managing director since February 2020. He will be leading Heal Capital together with Dr. Christian Weiß, who also joined in February 2020 as managing partner and managing director. Since 2017, Weber has been a co-founder and managing director of the digital health platform Heartbeat Labs.
“The timing couldn’t be better for Heal Capital; the digital health industry is growing strongly and the regulatory changes currently taking place are a game-changer for digital products demanded by both, healthcare providers and patients”, said Eckhardt Weber. “The combination of capital, direct market access, and sector-specific expertise puts heal capital in the perfect position to support Europe’s champions in improving healthcare.”
Heal Capital is a European venture capital fund focusing on the healthcare market. Initiated by the Association of German Private healthcare insurers in September 2019, the fund has 80 million euros in assets under management to date from leading German private healthcare insurers. This is very close to the target volume of 100 million euros after only a few months. Heartbeat Labs is also invested together with Flying Health, both support Heal Capital as expert partners.
“Eckhardt has been driving Heal Capital from day one”, said Dr. Johannes Keienburg, Managing Director of Heartbeat Labs. “Therefore, it is the logical next step. At Heal Capital, he can fully apply the experience he gathered in launching new companies in his new role as an investor. We’re very confident that, together with Christian Weiß, the team will drive Heal Capital to become the leading European HealthTech VC.“
Weber co-founded Heartbeat Labs in 2017, leading the areas of business development, investments, and investor relations as well as operationally involved in developing new ventures. Previously he was managing director at finleap, the leading European fintech ecosystem, after starting his career as a trained lawyer in the field of venture capital and M&A.
